White Rock Weekly: Carwash Taken Over By Film Crew

A funeral service at a carwash? TLC television network and Dallas-based Golden Gate Funeral Home say (or sing, rather), “at the carwash, yeah!”

On Saturday, April 6, a drove of production crewmembers arrived at Tommy Terrific’s Carwash located at 5021 Ross Ave. in Dallas to film an episode of the “Best Funeral Ever.” The series was officially picked up by TLC and will air its season opener featuring Tommy Terrific’s Carwash later this year.

The service was accompanied by a full choir, a charismatic preacher from Golden Gate Funeral Home, and what else but a custom car-shaped casket on wheels. After the eulogy, the casket was sent through the carwash — water, soaps and all. Sending the cleansed casket to the other side of the tunnel seemed a fitting way to bid farewell.

“I have to admit, this was a request I never expected!” said Tommy Terrific’s Carwash owner Tom Miller. “Though the funeral service was unlike any I have attended, it was clear the family was pleased to celebrate the life of the deceased at the carwash, a place their loved one truly enjoyed spending time. In the end, we were honored to participate.”

The carwash remained open for the majority of filming. Needless to say, there were a lot of questions from customers about what was occurring.
